The chain, a succession of islands attached to each other, is one of the most telling signs of palmistry. On the life line, it describes a continuous period of fragility rather than an isolated event.

Rarity: Visible in about 20% of palms on a portion of the line.

What the chain describes

Where the life line becomes a chain, the energy is never clean: it's constantly disturbed. This refers to a period of chronic fatigue, repeated tensions, or prolonged uncertainty, not a blow but a whole season.

A sign not to confuse with a simple island. The chain is longer, more systematic.

Position

A chain right at the start of the life line: childhood or adolescence marked by instability (health, environment, emotions).

A chain in the middle: active phase of life where you held many things at arm's length for a long time.

A chain at the end of the line: period of transition toward maturity where a new balance is sought.

What helps the reading

The chain almost always ends. When the line becomes clean again after the chain, you leave that period, and tradition says you come out with an endurance others don't have.

A sister line (parallel) next to the chain: constant support crosses that entire period with you.

The chain on the life line is a season descriptor, not a destiny. It says what you held, not what will happen to you.
